Applied Doctoral Researcher
Job Description
Carry out specialist research and develop rigorous evidence for technical evaluation.
What you will do
• Synthesize literature and produce technical writing in your research specialty.
• Design or assess experiments, datasets and methods.
• Contribute subject expertise to evaluation, data curation and benchmarks.
• Document methods and findings so others can reproduce the reasoning.
Required background
• A completed or ongoing PhD in a quantitative, scientific, technical or humanities discipline.
• Demonstrated doctoral-level subject expertise and the ability to apply it to research questions.
• At least five years of applicable industry work.
• Strong independent research and technical problem solving.
Preferred background
• Experience with AI/ML systems, datasets or evaluation pipelines.
• Technical writing, peer review or grant-writing experience.
• Undergraduate/graduate teaching or TA work.
• At least one first-author peer-reviewed publication.
Availability
• Remote and asynchronous, with 10–20 hours weekly over a two-to-three-week planning period; agree the actual scope and timing before starting.

Per project; fee agreed before work
The agreed project fee determines payment. Any hourly equivalent is an estimate, not an hourly-pay commitment.
