Outpatient Medical Coder
Job Description
Review outpatient records and evaluate coding decisions against documentation and official guidance.
What you will do
• Annotate office, clinic, ambulatory-surgery and hospital-outpatient records using ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS.
• Assess outpatient E/M levels using medical-decision-making or total-time rules.
• Apply diagnosis conventions, modifiers, medical-necessity rules and diagnosis-to-procedure links.
• Resolve documentation ambiguity and explain coding edge cases clearly.
Required background
• An active AAPC CPC certification.
Preferred background
• Detailed ICD-10-CM/CPT and outpatient E/M knowledge.
• Hands-on outpatient coding across relevant clinical settings.
• Experience with visit notes, procedure records and operative reports.
• Clear written/verbal communication.
• Access to current official ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II and E/M references.
Location and eligibility
• United States only; remote.
Availability
• Remote work; agree the assignment schedule before starting.
Pay and engagement
$21–$34/hr
