Job Description
Music is a universal language, but for AI to truly compose, it needs to understand the intricate grammar of music theory. Your expertise will unlock AI's potential to create harmonically rich, structurally sound, and emotionally resonant compositions.
As a Music Theory Specialist, you will be instrumental in teaching AI the fundamental principles of music. You'll evaluate AI-generated musical segments, provide detailed evaluations on harmonic progressions, melodic contours, and rhythmic structures, and even create bespoke training data to deepen AI's musical intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze AI-generated musical sequences for adherence to established music theory principles (e.g., voice leading, chord progressions).
Evaluate audio files and MIDI data with detailed information on key signatures, time signatures, cadences, and form.
Create original musical examples and theoretical explanations to serve as high-quality training data for generative AI models.
Evaluate AI compositions for melodic development, harmonic tension and release, and overall structural integrity.
Identify and correct theoretical inconsistencies or errors in AI-produced music.
Provide structured feedback on AI's ability to generate music in specific styles or genres, from Baroque counterpoint to contemporary jazz harmony.
Ideal Qualifications
Master's degree in Music Theory, Composition, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Deep understanding of Western music theory, including advanced harmony, counterpoint, and form.
Proficiency in music notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale, Dorico) and DAWs (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton Live).
Excellent aural skills and the ability to transcribe and analyze complex musical passages.
Experience in composition, arranging, or music education is highly valued.
Familiarity with MIDI data and audio analysis tools.
