Metallurgy and Welding Inspection Specialist
Job Description
Assess materials, welds, coatings and additive-manufacturing evidence, explaining acceptance decisions.
What you will do
• Interpret microstructures and heat-treatment evidence using AMS 2750, ASTM E112 and related specifications.
• Assess weld macro-etch results and welding-inspection acceptance criteria.
• Evaluate coatings under NACE/AMPP and SSPC methods.
• Review laser-powder-bed-fusion build defects and cross sections.
• Apply relevant NADCAP, AWS, ASTM and AMS standards and document accept/reject reasoning.
Required background
• Ability to make evidence-based material and inspection assessments and explain technical reasoning.
Preferred background
• Eight or more years making acceptance decisions on micrographs, weld macros, fracture surfaces, coatings or LPBF builds.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AMS, AWS, NADCAP, NACE/AMPP and SSPC standards.
• Current or former AWS CWI status or equivalent metallurgical certification.
• Experience with metallography, heat treatment, welding and coating inspection.
• Understanding of LPBF defect mechanisms.
• Clear written/verbal reporting and independent remote working.
• US location is preferred, rather than a mandatory residence condition.
Availability
• Remote work; agree the assignment schedule before starting.
Pay and engagement
$84–$137/hr
