The tonal complexity of Yoruba presents a unique and exciting challenge for AI, and your expertise is essential to its mastery. As a Yoruba Language Expert, you will generate and evaluate critical text data, ensuring AI models accurately capture the intricate tonal distinctions and cultural nuances of Yoruba, paving the way for truly intelligent and context-aware AI in West Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Generate diverse Yoruba text data, focusing on accurate representation of tones (e.g., high, mid, low) and diacritics.
Evaluate AI-generated Yoruba text for grammatical correctness, semantic accuracy, and tonal fidelity.
Evaluate Yoruba text for linguistic features such as part-of-speech, named entities, and sentiment, paying close attention to tonal markers.
Identify and correct errors in machine translation outputs from/to Yoruba, especially those related to tone-induced meaning shifts.
Provide expert feedback on the cultural appropriateness and contextual relevance of AI responses.
Contribute to the development of Yoruba-specific NLP guidelines and best practices.
Ideal Qualifications
Native fluency in Yoruba with an expert understanding of its tonal system and grammar.
Strong cultural knowledge of the Yoruba people and their linguistic conventions.
Experience in translation, content creation, or linguistic analysis for Yoruba.
Familiarity with NLP concepts and data evaluation tools (e.g., Prodigy, Labelbox) is a plus.
Exceptional written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail, particularly with diacritics.
Ability to work independently and adhere to strict data quality standards.
