Job Description
The rich tapestry of Igbo dialects and its unique linguistic structure present a compelling opportunity for AI advancement. As an Igbo Language Expert, you will be crucial in developing comprehensive Igbo language datasets, ensuring AI models accurately capture its grammatical nuances, cultural context, and regional variations, enabling more sophisticated and inclusive AI communication across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and expand Igbo language datasets, including diverse text types from various domains.
Evaluate AI-generated Igbo text for grammatical correctness, semantic accuracy, and naturalness, considering dialectal differences.
Evaluate Igbo text for linguistic features such as part-of-speech, named entities, and sentiment, with attention to dialectal markers.
Identify and correct errors in machine translation outputs from/to Igbo.
Provide expert feedback on the cultural appropriateness and contextual relevance of AI responses.
Contribute to the development of Igbo-specific NLP guidelines and best practices, acknowledging dialectal variations.
Ideal Qualifications
Native fluency in Igbo with a deep understanding of its grammar, syntax, and cultural context.
Knowledge of various Igbo dialectal variations (e.g., Owerri, Onitsha, Umuahia) is highly preferred.
Experience in translation, content creation, or linguistic analysis for Igbo.
Familiarity with NLP concepts and data evaluation tools (e.g., Prodigy, Labelbox) is a plus.
Exceptional written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and adhere to strict data quality standards.
