Hausa Language Specialist
Job Description
Bringing AI to the vast Hausa-speaking population requires meticulous linguistic expertise. As a Hausa Language Specialist, you will be instrumental in creating and evaluating the high-quality text data that teaches AI models to understand and generate Hausa with native fluency, cultural relevance, and grammatical precision, fostering deeper engagement and accessibility in West Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Generate diverse and culturally relevant Hausa text data, including conversational phrases, factual statements, and creative content.
Evaluate AI-generated Hausa text for grammatical correctness, semantic accuracy, and naturalness.
Evaluate Hausa text for linguistic features such as part-of-speech, named entities, and sentiment.
Identify and correct errors in machine translation outputs from/to Hausa.
Provide expert feedback on the cultural appropriateness and contextual relevance of AI responses.
Contribute to the development of Hausa-specific NLP guidelines and best practices.
Ideal Qualifications
Native fluency in both written and spoken Hausa, with a deep understanding of its grammar and syntax.
Strong cultural knowledge of West African societies where Hausa is spoken.
Experience in translation, localization, content creation, or linguistic analysis for Hausa.
Familiarity with NLP concepts and data evaluation tools (e.g., Prodigy, Labelbox) is a plus.
Exceptional written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and adhere to strict data quality standards.
