Gene Editing Safety Research Engagement
Job Description
IXO is engaging specialists to evaluate scientific accuracy and safety judgments about CRISPR and gene-editing responses. Your contribution is technical work: make the reasoning inspectable, identify substantive errors and provide evidence that supports a reliable assessment.
Work you will do
• Evaluate and annotate model outputs for correct gene-editing science and appropriate handling of sensitive biological questions.
• Identify misleading descriptions, unsupported claims or potential dual-use concerns and explain the reason for the finding.
• Complete the agreed evaluation set with consistent written rationales and the evidence needed to review each decision.
Required background and routes
• Current or completed relevant master's study, or PhD study at year two or beyond, in molecular/cell/synthetic/computational biology, bioengineering, genetics, microbiology, virology or biomedical engineering.
• At least two years of practical gene-editing bench work; experience with Cas9, Cas12 and Cas13 systems, guide-design tools such as CHOPCHOP, CRISPick or Benchling, cell lines and off-target methods such as GUIDE-seq or CIRCLE-seq.
Preferred background
• Therapeutic/disease research, base or prime editing or gene-drive research, DURC/biosafety/biosecurity knowledge, BSL-2-or-higher experience, and Python/R or BLAST analysis.
• Relevant therapeutic gene-editing or biosecurity research/industry experience is helpful; affiliation with a named organization is not required.
Deliverables
Submit the completed technical artifact or assessment with its supporting evidence, explicit assumptions, reproducible checks where applicable, and concise reasons for each material judgment. Address review findings within the agreed scope.
Location and schedule
Indicative scope is about one week and 10–20 hours in total; IXO confirms the actual scope before the engagement.
Pay and working terms
$1010 • $1210/engagement USD. This is the fee for the agreed engagement, not an hourly rate. Exceptional specialist work may be offered up to $1510 only by explicit prior agreement.
