Senior Book Editor
Job Description
Apply experienced editorial judgment to manuscripts and AI-generated editing advice.
What you will do
• Assess manuscripts for structure, clarity, voice and their intended readership or market.
• Perform line edits, copy edits and structural revisions where needed.
• Identify gaps or inconsistencies in plot, characterization and thematic development.
• Write constructive editorial commentary and contribute to editing guidelines.
• Review AI editing suggestions for accuracy and style, then refine them.
Preferred background
• Extensive book-editing work with established publishers or recognized authors.
• Editorial leadership on award-winning books or major bestsellers is especially useful.
• Excellent English, nuanced feedback across genres and effective remote collaboration.
• US-based editors are preferred, while highly qualified applicants elsewhere are also considered.
Location and eligibility
• Remote; US residence is preferred, not an exclusion of other locations.
Availability
• Hours and duration are agreed before work; no fixed commitment is stated.
Pay and engagement
$84 • $126/hr
USD hourly compensation. The applicable rate and agreed work scope are confirmed before work begins.
